For Sale by MoPho: Broyhill Brasilia Single Arch Mirror (just kidding)

Update: We decided to keep the single arch mirror to replace the non-mid century one in the Brasilia office. We tried to sell it...we really did ;-)

These mirrors are hard to come by so if you've been looking for one to go with your Brasilia credenza/dresser, look no further! This is part of Broyhill's very popular mid century modern Brasilia line, and bears the very sexy curves that this line is known for. I must admit, like most people who love mid century modern design and vintage / retro furnishings, we love this mirror and the brasilia line and are hesitant to part with the mirror, but we could use the money right now! The mirror is solid wood and heavy, it is in great vintage condition - there is some minor wear on the top where the finish has worn off a bit (please see photos), but this won't be noticeable if you hang the top above eye level. The rest of the mirror is in like new condition. It measures 42" tall x 21.25" wide.

The back of the piece bears the numbers that are clearly visible on the photo below and a stamp that is not as visible in the photo but states, "Design copyrighted 1962, Broyhill Furniture Factories, Lenoir North Carolina." The mirror would look great in any home, but especially those with furniture from the 1950's, 1960's, or 1970's - and anyone who appreciates atomic furnishings with great curves!

We have a new Broyhill Brasilia Desk! Sorry, we're keeping this piece...

Proof that it pays to search Craigslist for more general terms, we got a great condition Brasilia desk this weekend for $60!  Part of my usual search includes the term "Broyhill" on the off chance that someone will post a Brasilia item not knowing what it is but seeing the Broyhill makers mark.  Most of the time that is not the case and I was just about to give up on the search term.  This weekend I was scrolling through and saw a desk that looked kind of mid century on the small photo.  I had definitely searched the term the night before and scrolled right past it as it didn't jump out.  I clicked on the ad and saw the handles and just about had a conniption - a Broyhill Brasilia desk listed for $40!  I emailed it to my husband who happened to be looking for something smaller to replace a HUGE teak table he had been using for a desk, and he called immediately figuring someone else had snatched it up...but we got it!

He's all moved in now and I'm SO jealous of his amazing new desk!!  It's an absolutely beautiful example of mid century craftsmanship and style.  Who doesn't love Brasilia, though?

Amazing Maori figurines - perfect for a mid century tiki lover - SOLD

This incredible set of figurines was hand-carved in New Zealand by Hepa Gibbons at the Carve Craft Studio. They come complete with the original tag which explains more about the piece as follows, "Carving was used by the Maori people as a method of commemorating ancestors. The 'humanistic' style of carving is most often found at the bottom of ceremonial house support posts (poutokomanawa) or at the top of the roof (teko teko). The head is usually quite large in relation to the rest of the body, an indication of its importance in Maori belief."

I'm not sure what type of wood these guys were carved from, but the stain is quite dark, almost a walnut with auburn undertones. Both the large figurine and the tiny guy have mother of pearl eyes which gleam in the sun! They are super fun and would look good in a mid century modern tiki room, or in a collection of fine things. They might be the perfect gift for father's day...or buy them for yourself!!

For Sale by MoPho: John Stuart Inc Six piece bedroom set - SOLD

We have a gorgeous and extremely well made vintage bedroom set. This set includes all pieces below for the listed price, we are willing to sell pieces individually for prices listed next to the item, but would prefer to keep them together so we discounted the set price - we figure if furniture of this age makes it together for this long that it should remain as a set! It is all a medium wood stain with gold/brass pulls and spindle feet covers!

Most pieces in the set (aside from the headboard and mirror) bear the makers mark - John Stuart Inc New York, Grand Rapids. John Stuart Inc. was created by its namesake who also was president and chairman of the board for John Widdicomb furniture company prior to his death. His company was an american company that made danish furniture whose motto was "Exceptional furniture" - this set definitely meets that standard with dovetailed drawers that still slide smoothly, wood that shines with beauty to this date, the most solid legs I've seen on a piece of this era, and an amazing attention to detail. Everything is solid wood and functions just as it did when first purchased! Much of his mid century furniture is sold on 1st Dibs as it's so incredibly well made and solid.
